A 17-year-old mother was shot in the head while cradling her son in her arms and was killed.
On November 5th, Helvellyn da Sant’Anna Rosa was shot outside the home she shared with her mother, brother, and young son in Campo Grande, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
According to doctors, she was rushed by car to a nearby hospital, but arrived without a pulse at A&E.
The girl’s father, Helton da Sant’Anna Rosa, claimed to have been killed by her three-year-old ex-boyfriend, who allegedly shot her in the forehead while carrying her unrevealed-age son.
Helton told local media: “A villain who did not acknowledge their breakup shot my daughter in the forehead. She was murdered in a cowardly way. She never wanted to be with him, he was one of those possessive people.”
He really wanted her for him. He threatened my daughter constantly. I even talked to him once to stop him from doing that. He kept changing his address, his cell phone number, he had to schedule something in the last few days.
He came to the door, waited inside the car and called her, and she went to take my grandson with her. It didn’t take long and a gunshot was fired. My son went out and had already found her on the field.
“He shot my daughter in the head. With my grandson in her arms, my daughter was killed. He ran away and left the car with the door open there. I know that justice will be served.”
The police are investigating the case and the possibility of femicide is being considered. The suspect was identified as Alexandre Soares, and the police are tracking him down. His age was not disclosed.
After a tumultuous relationship during which Alexandre reportedly beat her, Helvellyn broke up with Alexandre earlier in the year, leaving her with obvious bruises.
Alexandre had reportedly sent abusive messages to Hevelyn ‘s phone over the months following the pair’s breakup.
As the perpetrator is suspected to be a gang member, Hevelyn ‘s family was too afraid to report the assaults and threats to the police.
Helvellyn was buried in Campo Grande on 7th November.
