In the event of his DNA being needed in a paternity case, the body of football legend Diego Maradona “must be preserved,” an Argentine court ruled on Wednesday, December 16.

Last month, the Argentine icon died of a heart attack and was buried on November 26 at the cemetery of Jardin Bella Vista in the province of Buenos Aires, where his parents were buried.

On 30 November, a court ruled that his body would not be cremated until all the requisite forensic tests had been done.

According to news, five known children and six with parentage applications are part of Argentina’s complicated inheritance mechanism over the £ 37 million fortune of Maradona.

One of the six, Magalí Gil, 25, who filed a complaint, said she learned two years ago that her biological father was a soccer icon.

Her birth mother approached her two years ago, according to Gil, to say that her father “may be Diego Maradona”

In its decision, the National Court of First Instance in Civil Matters No. 56 also said: ‘Ms. Gil demands that a review be conducted… And the acting prosecutor’s office is sending a DNA sample for this reason.

To prove his point, a teenager who also says he is the love child of Maradona requests that his body be dug up for DNA tests.

Just after the Argentine football hero was buried, Santiago Lara, 19, ordered his counsel to make an appeal.

Via his counsel, Santiago ordered Maradona’s autopsy, DNA reports, and the exhumation of his body in a written order lodged at a family court in Santiago’s home city of La Plata, Buenos Aires, so that it could be moved to a court morgue.

Maradona married his first and only wife, Claudia Villafané, 58, who was said to have met the couple when Claudia was only 17 years old.

The couple had been married with two children, daughters Dalma and Giannina, for more than 20 years, but divorced in 2004.
