The Nigerian Army is a competent army – Buratai reacts to to CNN documentary on Lekki Massacre

Lt. General Tukur Buratai, Chief of Army Staff, has reported that on October 20, 2020, they behaved professionally and adhered to the rules of engagement in handling #ENDSARS protesters at Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos.

Speaking on the #EndSARS problem on Wednesday, November 18, when he received members of the House of Representatives Army Committee at Army headquarters, Buratai said;

Let me remind you and all Nigerians that the trained army is the Nigerian Army. We follow our relationship rules. Nigerians ought to feel safe.

“We abide by the rules of engagement and the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s constitution.”

The COAS disclosed that the Nigerian Army Aviation is being reactivated on the question of abduction and banditry inflicting untold hardship on people along the Abuja-Kaduna route.

He said;

The problems of kidnapping and assaults by robbers are being taken care of.

“In this respect, the Transmission Company of Nigeria has acquired two helicopters. We have added them to our network and they will be rehabilitated and used for testing.”

Buratai also suggested the need for a government special intervention fund for the purchase of additional weapons, training and provision of accommodation and other facilities for military barracks.

He added,

“Although the budget has been made, due to the scarcity of funds necessary for the procurement of hardware, particularly to address the challenges in the North-East and North-West, there may be a need for the transfer of funds.”
