As they stripped a £ 28,000 Mercedes bit-by-bit during a night-time heist, the callous robbers left no trace behind.
Birmingham Live reported that the dark-grey C-Class was demolished overnight with crooks taking everything from the bumper to the seatbelts.
After the stripping in West Bromwich in the early hours of Thursday, December 10, only one shell of the luxury engine remains.
Pictures display the Merc’s skeletal bones, which are propped up on bricks as during the raid the wheels were nicked.
As his stepdaughter, Emily Heeley, 21, urged fellow motorists to be cautious, owner Paul Hampton was left fuming by the crime.
“No-one has seen something,” she said.
No-one has seen this or heard it being done. We asked our whole street about it and no-one knew what happened.
She figured she was seeing something when our neighbor glanced at the window at about 4.50 a.m. So she banged on my mom’s door to sound the alarm as soon as she heard.
“Paul has been gutted. He is working hard on his car. Most of the time, he works 13 hours a day seven days a week.
“We have lived in this street for over 20 years and never had a problem.”
Snaps suggest that little was left behind by the robbers. The bonnet, wheels, and chairs were stripped and robbed, leaving behind the vehicle’s bare bones.
Emily added: It is an understatement to say we are saddened and it is dreadful to have this happen right outside your house.
This year has been tough enough but it’s two weeks before Christmas, making it even worse.
“I would not wish on anyone what had happened to Paul.”
Forensic officers were drawn out to the street to take prints from the engine, Emily said, but it was said that not much could be found.
Anyone with information that helps to lead to a successful trial has also been given a £ 1,000 cash reward.
