The former Old Trafford favourite says that if they continue to slip down the Premier League table, the Red Devils would have “no excuses”

According to Dimitar Berbatov, who says the Red Devils should not blame their problems on fixture congestion, Manchester United risk’ humiliation’ this season if they fail to rediscover their consistency.

After their first seven fixtures of the 2020-21 season, United is 14th in the Premier League table, with just three wins reported alongside three defeats and a draw.

The side of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has yet to win at Old Trafford and will try to buck the trend when on November 21 West Brom arrives in Manchester.

On Saturday, a 3-1 victory over Everton at Goodison Park served as a timely reminder of what the Red Devils are capable of when firing on all cylinders, but Solskjaer hit out at post-match schedulers for failing to allow his team enough recovery time after their loss against Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League.

The authorities have set us up for failure. Who is responsible? We’ve had enough of that, “he said.” This season, players, in these days, a pandemic is draining, mentally and physically.

“Let’s play on a Sunday, there’s an international break, and it’s a joke after that.”

However, Berbatov does not believe that United can use such an excuse for any bad outcomes, and has cautioned that his old club is at risk of plunging to new depths unless they can begin delivering the goods week in, week out.

For several years, during my tenure and well before my time , the United States has experienced fixture congestion. United are used to competing in the Premier League, Europe and in the cups-we used to win them all as well.

There should be no explanations, the case with everyone else is the same, the performances are just not adequately consistent. Sooner rather than later, they need to change or other teams will get ahead of them and they could become a total embarrassment.

It’s like you need to be under pressure from United to deliver a winning result. But you can only work like that for so long-they won’t create the win every time the pressure is piled on.

In the end, if they continue to be too inconsistent, it isn’t going to end well. The team needs to find consistency and deliver strong games after game of football.

In spite of their recent problems, Berbatov still assumes Solskjaer is the right man to lead United, but he has urged the 47-year-old to fix a lack of urgency when possession is turned over in order to prevent more dips in form.

“He added:” I always believe that Solskjaer is trusted by the players and they like him. I think he has their confidence and they have his. There’s something when they lose that just doesn’t fit right in games.

“The problem for me is that often they have a lack of mobility to chase to bring the ball back when they don’t have the ball.

“Overall, though, I think they’re still playing for the manager and they all like each other. But that’s not enough sometimes and it’s not ideal for United to be 14th in the table.

“I hope we won’t see another dip in form in their next game-against West Brom in the Premier League. If that happens, we’ll talk again about the same thing.
