The Security Headquarters of the Nigerian Army (DHQ) raised the alarm about insurgents purchasing fertilizer to make explosives.
This was reported on Friday 15 January by Maj. Gen. John Enenche, Coordinator of the Directorate of Defense Media Operations (DDMO), during a media briefing on military operations from 7 to 13 January.
Eneche said the use of fertilisers by criminal gangs threatened the nation’s security.
He said;
Although fertilizers are primarily for agricultural purposes, the possibility of being obtained for sinister purposes by criminal gangs, terrorists and militants cannot be disregarded because, due to their ammonium nitrate content, fertilizers remain a potential component for the manufacture of explosives.
In addition, fertilizer poses a security threat with current security challenges in mind.
