Mr. Sunday Dare, Minister of Youth and Sports Development, said the government required N81 million to cut the grass that has taken over Abuja’s Moshood Abiola National Stadium.
During a seminar organized by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, he made the announcement while speaking.
The Minister claimed that he had approached the Abuja Environmental Protection Board for an appraisal of the stadium that was built in 2003 on 29 hectares (72 acres of land built with N53 billion) reports Sahara Reporters.
We approached AEPB to see what could be done in the stadium to clear the grass and weed, and they told us that it would cost us N81 m.
If we tell Nigerians that we have used N81m, which is not even available, there would be an uproar. We don’t have the funds there, and that’s why we’re working with private equity to get the core components of our infrastructure back,’ he added.
