The signing of Fikayo Tomori on loan from Chelsea until the end of the season was completed by AC Milan.

The center-back has battled this campaign for regular game time at Stamford Bridge, and transfers to the Series A leaders as they seek to end the domination of Juventus in the Italian domestic league.

Tomori heads to San Siro until at least the end of the 2020-21 season, with an option of EUR 30 million (£ 26 million/$ 36.5 million) if Milan wishes to purchase the international defender from England in the summer.

On Saturday, when the Rossoneri face Atalanta at home in Serie A, Milan manager Stefano Pioli could throw Tomori directly into first-team action – but the Canadian-born defender’s first game in Italy could be against the deadly rivals of his new side.

Inter Milan face Ac Milan on Tuesday in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals, meaning Tomori could well find himself plunged into the deep end of one of the prestigious fixtures of Italian football.

On January 30, their subsequent Serie A fixture is off to Bologna, with Milan currently leading Inter by three points in second position – and Juventus champions by 10 – as they pursue their first domestic title since 2010-11.
