As Jose Mourinho’s side were pinned back to a 1-1 draw by Ivan Cavaleiro’s entirely acceptable effort, Harry Kane’s brilliant header was not enough for Tottenham.

Thanks to Kane’s 25th-minute effort, his 36th league goal against a London opponent, Spurs looked poised to win back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time since November.

The decision to reschedule his team’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at such short notice angered Scott Parker, but Fulham remained in the game and got their reward with Son Heung-min squandering a great opportunity to wrap things up.

As he swiped in a cross that was met by the imposing Cavaleiro to seal a share of the spoils, substitute Ademola Lookman proved the difference-maker.

Within the opening 10 minutes, Sergio Reguilon blazed over, but Fulham showed plenty of intent and Hugo Lloris had his palms stung by the strike of Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

With two excellent saves, both from Son, Alphonse Areola came to the fore, who prodded goalwards from point-blank range before attempting to direct a header into the top-right corner.

However, Areola was beaten in the 25th minute. Kane went low where Son went for height, diving to reach the exquisite left-wing cross of Reguilon and head in off the post.

Soon after, Kane was the recipient of another fantastic cross, this time from Serge Aurier, but struggled to hold his header down.

After the restart, Tosin Adarabioyo made a brilliant last-ditch tackle to frustrate Moussa Sissoko, while Areola had to lunge across to keep the dipping effort of Harry Winks out.

With just under 20 minutes left, Son may have wrapped things up, but hit the foundation of the right-hand upright, and Spurs were forced to pay.

To meet Lookman’s cross, Cavaleiro towered over Eric Dier and sent a powerful header beyond Lloris, saving a hard-earned point with Fulham’s first shot on the half’s target, with Reguilon rightly denying the offside flag a last-gasp winner.
