Tottenham has ‘done things better’ than Arsenal this season, admits Mikel Arteta, but says his side heads into the north London derby on Sunday determined to close the gap on their neighbors.

Once in the league this season, Spurs have lost just once this season and are currently sitting top of the table, while Arsenal, who have lost five of their opening 10 games, is languishing in 14th position.

But victory on Sunday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for Arteta’s side will see the Gunners transfer to Jose Mourinho’s side within five points and Arteta is adamant that’s what he’s focusing on.

“That’s the way the table is because they deserve more than us and they’ve done better than us,” the Spaniard said.

At certain points in certain games, they have the scores and they have them. We’ve gotta recognize that. But we want to go there and reduce the distance by three points.

I think seeing who is the title contender or not is quite early in the season, but what you can tell is that they are in the place they are because they do things the right way.

They are in a fantastic moment, full of trust, and you can see how much faith they believe in what they do.

When they have moments of trouble, they stick to the plan and they hope at some point they can get the outcome and for them, it’s happening at the moment.

“They did very well and that’s why they are where they are.”

Arteta added: “What we have to look at is where we are going to be in the league after 38 matches. Now, what happens after Sunday is going to happen.”

We’re going to win the game and this is the only way we’re going to prepare for any match on any ground. Have the trust and faith that we will win the football match and go there.

Sunday’s northern London derby will be the first time fans have been inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since football was halted in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

2,000 fans will cheer Spurs on just as Arsenal did when they hosted Rapid Vienna in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Arteta’s side, supported by their home support, came out 4-1 winner and after the game, the Gunners boss admitted that the fans had made the difference.

But despite that he is not worried about the advantage that Tottenham might get this weekend, insisting that it is good for the game to get fans back into a stadium.

He said A derby without fans is not the same.” “There are certain items created by fans. The momentum they are able to provide in the game and it’s not the same without them.

For a long time, we’ve been waiting for this moment and I’m not going to whine. Honestly, I’d rather play in an atmospheric stadium with some fans, and it’s going to be for them with their supporters right now and it’s going to be for us next week.

“I have no idea what will happen. Our players, what we do and what mentality we have and what mindset we take to White Hart Street, are what I can manage.

We have to try to accomplish these kinds of goals in the best way possible because we can’t monitor what kind of response they’re going to have to their team depending on what’s going on in the game. To them, it’s up. We’re going to do our bit.’
