Jose Mourinho claims that after finding that his players were frustrated with Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea, Tottenham had a “complete change of mentality”
When they left Stamford Bridge with a win, the North London side ensured they went back to the top of the Premier League, ahead of Liverpool on goal difference.
Although traditionally, escaping defeat at Chelsea can be viewed as a success for Spurs, Mourinho was pleased to see that despite struggling to get the best of Frank Lampard’s side, his players were upset in the locker room.
“A draw at Stamford Bridge is usually a positive thing and staying top of the league is also a positive thing,” he told Sky Sports.
But with that, my dressing room is not happy and that’s great. It’s a total change of attitude and character.
“It was a game which we appreciated them and they respected us. Nobody took a gamble today or tried to change the direction of the game. Everybody had been in a situation of one mistake wins the game, especially in the last 15 minutes.”
He continued: “There were not many opportunities for the game. It’s a game where we both wanted to win. We respect each other. Nobody was gambling.”
They had one shot from a distance, and in the first half we had more than in the second. For both sides, I think a big game is challenging.
Mourinho was delighted to see his side remain at the top of the table before turning their attention to the Europa League match against LASK on Thursday, followed by a home match against Arsenal next Sunday.
We remain top. I like the feeling and I think it’s just for 2,000 people, but the feeling of playing the first game with the public and becoming top is a gift for the fans,”We stay top. I like the feeling and I think it is only for 2,000 fans but the feeling of playing the first game with public and being top is a gift for the fans,”
The world of Tottenham supporters is not just these 2,000, but what they serve. We’re delighted. But I’m not changing my mind. We win today if we’re a little higher. It was there to win. It’s just a good thing to be top. We need to win the next game.
