Despite some excellent performances of late, the South Korean forward, currently on international duty with his country, is modest about his potential.
Despite his enormously impressive form over the last few seasons, Tottenham star Heung-min Son does not consider himself to be one of the best players in the Premier League.
At the start of the 2020-21 season, Son was excellent, with eight goals scored in as many league games and ten strikes in all competitions in 13 matches.
Son himself claims to have never found himself on a par with Mohamed Salah, Kevin De Bruyne or any other top-flight star, although his goalscoring abilities, ball skills and significant turn of pace have established him as one of the most feared Premier League forwards.
Son said in an interview on the YouTube channel of the Korea Football Association (KFA): “I’ve never once felt that I’m one of the Premier League’s best players. Truly, for a moment, I’ve never thought that.”
For Tottenham and for the national team, I’ve always tried to do my best and try to demonstrate all my skills. Playing for the national team and for Spurs feels different. We will train well so that we can play as well as we can for the fans.
Son is currently with the national team of South Korea for friendships against Mexico and Qatar and aims to carry his form of club to the international stage.
He’s going to be looking to connect with the likes of RB Leipzig’s Hwang Hee-chan and Bordeaux player Hwang Ui-jo, with Son going on to discuss his international team-mates, as well as his friendship with Harry Kane.
“He said:” For a long time, Kane and I have played together. At any moment, it is normal to try and improve [the partnership]. He is younger than me, but he plays hard at all times.
Also, Hee-chan and Ui-jo are working hard. For a long time, we have met one another, and we know what we want. These days, Hee-chan and Uijo are having a rough time with their [club] teams, but with my team, I’m fortunate.
“I hope Hee-chan and Ui-jo are going to improve their national team success. I think it’s also my job to help them get back to their teams in a better way.”
