Before defending his speech that encouraged his supporters to march to the Capitol, US President Donald Trump reacted to the latest effort by Democrats to have him impeached from office.

In light of the unrest that rocked the US Capitol last week, Democrats are attempting to impeach Donald Trump, leaving five people dead, including a police officer.

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives is set to vote on an article of impeachment for “incitement of insurrection” against Mr. Trump.

Speaking on Tuesday as he left the White House for a visit to Texas to inspect a portion of the border wall with Mexico, the president said the Democrats’ effort to impeach him was causing “immense anger”

Mr. Trump reiterated his unsubstantiated accusations of voter fraud during the November 3rd presidential election during his speech at a rally in Washington on January 6, and encouraged his supporters to march on Congress.

“We’re going to walk down to the Capitol, and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women, and we’re probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them, because you’ll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength, and you have to be strong,” he told the crowd of several thousand supporters.

In support of Trump’s false claims that the US election was stolen from him, rioters stormed the Capitol building soon after the speech.

In the deadly protests, five people were killed, including a police officer.

Today, discussing his speech, he said it was ‘totally suitable’.

House Democrats impeached Trump in December 2019 on grounds of misuse of authority and Legislative obstruction, but the Republican-controlled Senate voted not to prosecute him.
