witter went down on Thursday night for millions of users, as reports came in of people unable to access the social media giant’s website.

Technology troubleshooting website DownDetector reported a huge spike in issues on the site at around 10.30pm on Thursday evening.

A live outage map on the site shows the platform experienced issues across the world, but the majority of complaints were reported in the UK and the US.

Of the problems, 68% have been linked to the website, 19% to the iOS app on iPhones, and 11% on the Android app.

Users trying to access the Twitter desktop site were presented with an error message.

Some users report problems sending tweets and refreshing their timelines.

“Something is technically wrong. Thanks for noticing—we’re going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon,” Twitter reads on its own blog.

On the Twitter status page, the company wrote: “Investigating Irregularity with Twitter APIs (application programming interface).

Many users, ironically, took to Twitter to report the issue.

One wrote: “Can you see this because I think Twitter is down.”

Another added: “Is Twitter down again are you kidding?”

It comes a day after the social media giant temporarily blocked President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign’s account after it said a video posted by the account about Democratic Candidate Joe Biden’s son violated its rules.

The video referred to a New York Post story from Wednesday containing alleged details of Hunter Biden’s business dealings with a Ukrainian energy company and said the former vice president had met with an adviser of the company.

Twitter’s Chief Executive Jack Dorsey tweeted on Wednesday saying “our communication around our actions on the @nypost article was not great. And blocking URL sharing via tweet or DM with zero context as to why we’re blocking: unacceptable.”

After Twitter imposed the restrictions, the US Senate Judiciary Committee moved to subpoena Dorsey.

Earlier this summer, Twitter suffered a major hack of high-profile accounts including those of Kanye West, Jeff Bezos, Apple, Elon Musk and Joe Biden.

The hack, which took place on July 15, targeted 130 accounts.

Twitter returned to normal service by around 11.30pm Thursday.
