Twitter permanently suspends Trump’s account for ‘inciting violence’ during the Capitol Chaos

President Donald Trump’s Twitter account has been indefinitely suspended by Twitter bosses following a “risk of further incitement of violence.”

The brave decision by social media companies comes just days after the President’s account was suspended for 12 hours after a massive rally that saw the Capitol stormed by Trump supporters.

Trump took to his social media accounts to post a message to his supporters as violence erupted at the center of American politics, urging them to go home before adding “we love you”

The President expressed many of his decisions to the 75 million people who had watched him during his tenure in the Oval Office, as well as using the opportunity to say that the election that saw him losing the office to Joe Biden was ‘fake’.

Following the distorted allegations by The Apprentice stars, Twitter bosses agreed to share disclaimers on his post that his tweets were untrue.

The decision was taken after the President, who is expected to leave the office in a matter of days, made two divisive tweets.

One post read: “The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape, or form!”

While the second added: “To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.”

In a statement released by the social media giant, they said: “We have permanently suspended the account due to the danger of further incitement of violence following a close review of recent tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them, specifically how they are received and interpreted on and off Twitter.”

“In the context of horrific events this week, we made it clear on Wednesday that additional violations of the Twitter Rules would potentially result in this very course of action.”

The platform continued: “Our public interest framework exists to enable the public to hear from elected officials and world leaders directly. It is built on the principle that the people have a right to hold power to account in the open.

However, we made it clear going back years that these accounts are not above our rules entirely and cannot use Twitter to incite violence, among other things. We will continue to be transparent around our policies and their enforcement.”

They concluded adding: “Due to the ongoing tensions in the United States, and an uptick in the global conversation in regards to the people who violently stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

These two tweets must be interpreted in the light of the larger developments in the world and the forms in which the President’s comments may be mobilized by various audiences, including in the context of the incitement of abuse, as well as in the context of the pattern of behavior that has taken place in the past few weeks.

“After assessing the language in these Tweets against our Glorification of Violence policy, we have determined that these Tweets are in violation of the Glorification of Violence Policy and the user @realDonaldTrump should be immediately permanently suspended from the service.”

Jason Miller, Trump’s senior advisor, took to Twitter to describe the act as “disgusting” after the news of the suspension.
