Two suspects in connection with the murder of Governor Willie Obiano ‘s aide, Azubuike Ekwegbalu, 43, have been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command.
It should be recalled that late on August 9, 2020, Ekwegbalu, the Senior Special Assistant to the Security Governor, was stabbed to death inside his residence in the Commissioners’ Awka quarters.
Confirming the latest development on Tuesday, November 10, State Police Command spokesman SP Haruna Mohammed said that after the incident, police detectives turned to action and detained two key suspects after intensive investigation.
Osita John, 21, of Ifite ogwari in Ayamelum LGA, Anambra District, but residing in Agu Awka, and Achewa Musa, 27, of Abinsel Guma LGA, Benue State, Amansea Garki State, are the suspects.
Mohammed said that the suspects willingly admitted to scaling into the deceased house and stabbing him over a cult-related matter on his lower abdomen before carting two of his cell phones away.
Two Android phones belonging to the victim and one knife reportedly used in perpetrating the heinous act include exhibits seized from the suspects. As soon as inquiries are completed, the suspects will be charged to the court.
In the meantime, Police Commissioner CP John Abang reiterated that in the State of Anambra there is no safe place for criminals and that the command under his watch will continue to fish and deal aggressively with criminal elements in compliance with the law until they repent or leave the State.
