Another 20,412 individuals tested positive overnight for Covid-19, with the UK’s death toll now standing at 49,970, according to estimates from the Department of Health.

Health officials said there were 372 deaths in UK hospitals, including 300 in England, 39 in Scotland, 22 in Wales, and 11 in Northern Ireland.

On Sunday, November 8, there were 13,617 coronavirus patients at a hospital in England, up from 11,557 a week earlier.

Since May 12, when 614 new deaths were reported in the UK, this is the largest increase in fatalities.

It is also a sharp increase from the 194 reported on Monday, November 9, and may represent a lag from the weekend in the reporting of deaths.

In the UK, the total number of cases is now 1,233,775.

Health Secretary Matt Hanock said today that individuals in the UK are likely to be among the first to get a coronavirus jab in the world.

According to Hancock, the UK’s drug regulator could approve the Pfizer or Oxford jabs within days of a license application being submitted due to rolling data analysis.

He told MPs in the Commons that the priority was on supplying Oxford and Pfizer vaccines if they pass safety checks and are approved by regulators, likely next summer with another vaccine coming.

It is next summer until the next vaccine candidate comes on line, and so the aim of the new roll-out schedule is to produce the Pfizer and AstraZeneca ventures if the safety tests are passed, “he said.”

Earlier, Hancock said that from the beginning of December, the military and NHS personnel are on standby to carry out a Covid-19 vaccine across the UK and will run “seven days a week,” with GPs, new vaccination centers and pharmacists all playing a part.

In certain regions, pop-up vaccine clinics are likely to be used as well.
