Uncertainty Over NIN Registration As NIMC Workers Starts Strike

The workers below grade level 12 of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) started a 2-day notice strike on Thursday, plunging the National Identity Registration exercise into chaos.

The notice strike was launched to demand safety measures against COVID-19 for NIMC employees and also to call for a new salary structure, NIMC unit chairman of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), Asekokhai Lucky Michael, and secretary of the unit, Odia Victor, said.

The Unit Executive hereby directs all members of Grade Level 12 and below in the Head Office and all state offices to report to their respective duty posts tomorrow (today) January 7, 2021, following the last just-concluded Congress of the above-mentioned association held on January 6, 2021, and do nothing,’ a statement signed by Michael and Victor said.

As the association task force and implementation committee will be on the ground to ensure compliance, the association also instructed all representatives in the local government offices and specialty centers to stay away from the different centers.

We stated earlier that because of the alarm strike, the Federal Government Directive for telecom operators to connect their subscribers with National Identity Numbers (NINs) may suffer a setback.
