US Elections: Arizona State Certifies Joe Biden’s Victory

Arizona officials approved the state’s election results on Monday, formalizing the slim win of Democrat Joe Biden over Donald Trump even though lawyers for the Republican president tried to make false charges of irregularities in the state’s vote count.

Alongside Gov. Doug Ducey and Attorney General Mark Brnovich, all Republicans, and State Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert Brutinel, Democratic Secretary of State Katie Hobbs approved the election results.

Both Hobbs and Ducey vouched for the fairness of the voting count.

‘Here in Arizona, we’re doing elections well. The system’s solid,’ said Ducey.

He did not answer Trump’s accusations of fraud specifically but said the state pulled off a competitive election amid the pandemic with a combination of in-person and mail voting.

Arizona voters should recognize that the election “was conducted in accordance with the laws and election procedures of Arizona with transparency, accuracy, and fairness, despite numerous unfounded claims to the contrary,” Hobbs said.

Biden is just the second Democrat to win Arizona in 70 years. He prevailed with 10,457 votes in the final count, 0.3 percent of the almost 3.4 million ballots cast. To officially cast Arizona’s electoral votes for Biden, 11 Democratic electors will meet on Dec. 14.
