The mystery surrounding the death of the US military Specialist Enrique Roman-Martinez took a grisly turn after it appeared that his eyeless head was the only part of the 21-year-old parachutist’s body that has been retrieved so far.

The soldier’s remains were discovered on a beach in Carteret County, North Carolina, at Shackelford Banks. According to Army investigators, the soldier’s remains were found using dental records.

Autopsy findings performed at the Brody School of Medicine state that the transection of the neck and cervical spine resulted in “multiple chop injuries.”

The study goes on While decapitation is in and of itself universally fatal, in this case the rest of the body was not available for examination and therefore it is impossible to exclude potential causes of death involving the torso and extremities.”

“The cause of death of Roman-Martinez was identified as “homicide by undetermined means”.

His sister Griselda Martinez said that hearing the details of the mutilation of Roman-Martinez was heartbreaking: “Why did they have to do that to him? ”

She said to the Observer of Fayetteville. “He’s gone now. Why was it that they had to take the extra step to do this to him? So, it’s been very tough for us too.”

Seven or so other soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division’s Headquarters Unit, 37th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team had been camping with the human resource specialist.

He left behind his cell phone, his wallet, his t-shirt and the glasses he needed to wear every day when he went missing.

The soldiers camping with Roman-Martinez last saw him at midnight, right before they fell asleep, according to a transcript of a 911 emergency call in the Army Times.

“He was not here when we woke up, and we’ve been looking for him all day,” said the caller. “We tried to find the Park Rangers, or their offices, or whatever, so we went all the way to the ferry and found that we had to dial 911.”

The family of the young paratrooper, however, claim that there are inconsistencies in the story of the soldiers and that the soldiers were asked to move their vehicles by Park Rangers between the alleged disappearance of Roman-Martinez and the emergency call.

Cape Lookout Spokesperson for the National Seashore B.G. It was odd, Horvat said that the group did not mention to the rangers that they were looking for their comrade: “You’d have to ask the group members why they didn’t report a missing person back then.”
