Video shows Schalke players being chased by angry fans after they were relegated from Bundesliga

After being relegated from the Bundesliga for the first time since 1988, Schalke players were targeted by their own supporters.

After losing 1-0 to Arminia Bielefeld on Tuesday night, April 20, the German club’s fate was sealed.

After their relegation from the Bundesliga was reported, Schalke fans were angry with their players.

According to ESPN, some 500-600 fans waited for the team at the Veltins Arena, according to local police. The players were attacked and pelted with eggs as soon as they arrived.

A couple of Schalke players are seen running for their lives while being chased away by angry supporters in a video shared online.

Schalke has issued a statement condemning the fans involved.

“After returning from Bielefeld in the early hours of Wednesday morning, there was a brief conversation between the players and some groups of fans,” their statement began.

“Some currently unidentified individuals crossed FC Schalke 04’s non-negotiable boundaries during the match.

“Despite our understandable dissatisfaction and indignation over our relegation to Bundesliga 2, the club will never acknowledge the physical harm that our players and staff have been subjected to. That’s exactly what happened during last night’s brawl. The club vehemently opposes this behavior and stands by our employees.
