Following Tuesday’s 1-1 draw away to Manchester City, West Brom manager Slaven Bilic was sacked by the club.

Reports emerged late last night that after arguably securing his club’s best result of the season, the Croatian was headed for the chop.

The Etihad draw looked like Bilic, who had seen his side lose five of their last six matches, had eased considerable pressure.

But West Brom revealed today that they will be looking for a new boss as the 52-year-old becomes the season’s first managerial Premier League casualty.

Relegation survival specialist Sam Allardyce, former Watford boss Nigel Pearson and ex-Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe are among the candidates.

Whoever takes the Hawthorns job, with the Baggies only two points from safety in 19th place, will still have a pretty good chance of saving the Midlands outfit.

This term sees West Brom on seven points with one victory and four draws from 13 games, six ahead of rock-bottom Sheffield United.

Bilic, speaking last night, declined to be questioned by continuing rumors about his future.

I love my work, I’m very calm. I’m not bothered, he said, full-time.

“I do my work. I work hard for the club players on my own.

“I don’t think about what is happening behind the scenes.”

On the half-hour when Raheem Sterling pulled the ball back to Ilkay Gundogan, City took the lead, peacefully bringing the ball home.

But West Brom struck City defender Ruben Dias and deflected in within a matter of minutes after a shot from Semi Ajayi.

For the remainder of the draw, West Brom’s were on the back foot, but displayed immense resolve and defensive power.

On Sunday, before a trip to champions Liverpool on the 27th, a Midlands derby clash with Aston Villa is next for the club.

The club’s final outing of their year is at Leeds United’s home.

With the visit of Arsenal and a trip to rivals Wolves – with a cup tie against Blackpool sandwiched in between – 2021 doesn’t start any easier.
