As the Portugal international sealed a 2-1 comeback victory over Chelsea at Molineux on Tuesday, Pedro Neto was Wolves’ hero in the second stoppage time.

The men of Frank Lampard went into the match momentarily with the risk of going top, but Wolves showed admirable character to come from behind to secure a fine win against the odds.

Before Olivier Giroud scored his seventh goal in as many matches with 49 minutes on the clock, Kurt Zouma went closest to breaking the deadlock late in the first half as he hit the frame of the goal.

However as Daniel Podence, a nuisance to Chelsea throughout, got himself a deserved goal in the 66th minute to restore parity, Wolves were unperturbed.

When Wolves had overturned a penalty award, Chelsea had obviously assured a share of the spoils, Neto considered simulated contact in the area, but in the fifth minute of stoppage time the winger eventually had the final say.

The drama that was to unfold in the second period belied a fairly drab first half, with the only moment of real excitement coming right before the interval when Zouma sent a towering header onto the crossbar.

However, Wolves were not so lucky soon after the restart.

The low delivery of Ben Chilwell from the left was met at the near post by Giroud and Rui Patricio could not quite hold an instinctive finish from his bottom-right corner.

Fabio Silva then had his first Premier League goal disallowed for offside, but in the 66th minute, Wolves did draw level.

The troublesome Podence was not dealt with by Chelsea, and his lovely effort took a slight deflection from a defender on his way to the back of the net.

When a VAR analysis corrected the referee’s initial mistake of pointing to the spot when under pressure from Reece James, Neto went to ground.

But for the right reasons, all eyes were on the Wolves man at the end, as Neto latched onto the counter of Vitinha’s pass, charged to Zouma and fired a pinpoint finish into the bottom-right corner.
