Woman branded the ‘Womb raider’ will be the first woman executed in nearly 70 years with lethal injection

As the first woman executed in nearly 70 years on death row, the so-called “womb raider” murderer will make history.

On Tuesday, Lisa Montgomery, 52, who killed a pregnant woman before her innocent child was cut out of her womb and abducted, will be put to death.

In December 2004, she received the death penalty for murdering 23-year-old Bobbie Jo Stinnett in Missouri, USA.

The first woman to be executed since 1953 will be Montgomery, the only woman on federal death row.

At Terre Haute prison in Indiana, the only federal jail with an active death chamber, she is due to undergo a lethal injection.

As President-elect Joe Biden has openly denounced the death penalty, her execution may be one of the last.

But it is not clear if, when he assumes office later this month, he will suspend federal executions.

Before retrieving the unborn baby girl with a kitchen knife, Montgomery strangled her victim, who was 8 months pregnant, with a piece of rope.

Prosecutors said that she had stolen the baby and attempted to pass it off as her own.

She had met the victim online and had driven 175 miles to Skidmore from her home in Kansas to carry out the twisted scheme.

Montgomery lawyers-who is locked up at the all-female Carswell Federal Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas-and campaigners now want her sentence commuted to a life sentence.

They contend that she is a mentally ill survivor of violence who needs compassion.

But in Skidmore, Missouri, people claim she was a killer calculator.

Meagan Morrow, a school-based victim’s mate, told the broadcaster, “Bobbie deserves to be here today.” The family of Bobbie deserves her.

The US Court of Appeals ruled earlier this month that she must potentially be hanged.

A previous judge was incorrect to vacate her execution date, the court concluded.
