Reportedly, bandits in Zamfara are demanding “harvest fees” from farmers in Zamfara to allow them to harvest their crops in peace.
This BBC Hausa revelation was made by farmers. The farmers were forced at the beginning of the planting season to pay bandits to give them access to their farms. Now that it is time for their crops to be harvested, the bandits are requesting as much as 900,000 Naira from some villagers’ farmers before allowing them to begin harvesting.
Northern youths went on Twitter to complain about this, explaining that this is one of the reasons why food items in the markets are costly.
