Zlatan Ibrahimovic has agreed to a new one-year contract with AC Milan, extending his stay at the San Siro past his 40th birthday.

The Swedish striker, who turns 40 in October, is the Italian giants’ top scorer this season, with 17 goals in just 25 appearances across all competitions.

‘The saga begins,’ Ibrahimovic wrote on Twitter, sharing a picture of himself signing the new contract.

‘I’m in a great mood.’ This is the day I’ve been looking forward to. I’m extending my stay for another year. In a tweet, Ibrahimovic said, “It’s what matters and it’s what’s most important.”

‘I’ve always said that playing for AC Milan is like being at home. I am very pleased with the way the club makes me feel, everybody who works here, my team-mates and the coach and the fans that I miss a lot in the stadium.’

“In Italy, Zlatan has made the most appearances for Milan. The Swedish striker will continue to wear the red and black jersey next season after scoring 84 goals in 130 appearances with the Rossoneri, according to the club.

With 17 goals in 25 games across all competitions, Ibrahimovic is Milan’s top scorer this season.

In January 2020, the Sweden international returned to Milan for a second stint after previously playing for the Rossoneri between 2010 and 2012, including a year on loan from Barcelona.

Ibrahimovic began his career at Malmo in 1999 and has since played for Ajax, PSG, Juventus, LA Galaxy, and Milan’s city rivals Inter.

Ibrahimovic has won 11 league titles in his career, scoring over 500 goals in over 800 appearances.
